Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana will experience hazardous winds tonight, with gusts expected to peak at 45 mph. Drivers and residents should take precautions as the Wind Advisory remains in effect from 6 p.m. today until 4 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service warns that west winds between 15 and 25 mph will make driving challenging, especially for trucks and SUVs. Affected areas include Indianapolis, Muncie, and Lafayette, as well as Interstate 65 and Interstate 69 corridors.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items to prevent damage. Tree limbs may be blown down, and scattered power outages could occur. Emergency crews recommend keeping flashlights and phone chargers accessible.

Tonight’s gusts will usher in colder air, dropping temperatures into the low 30s. Thursday will see highs in the upper 40s, with brisk winds continuing throughout the day. Conditions will moderate slightly by Friday, but another cold front could bring rain and wind over the weekend.

Check road conditions if traveling tonight, and secure loose objects before the advisory takes effect.
