Peru, IN – Indiana residents will have a chance to safely dispose of unwanted, expired, or unused prescription medications during the nationwide Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The Indiana State Police (ISP) is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the annual initiative aimed at reducing prescription drug abuse and environmental hazards.

According to the Indiana State Police, collection sites will be open statewide from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can drop off pill and liquid medications at any Indiana State Police Post — except the Toll Road Post. The Peru Post, located at 1451 N. Eel River Cemetery Road, will host its local collection during those hours.

The “Take Back” program provides a free and anonymous way to prevent prescription drugs from being misused, stolen, or improperly discarded. Needles and sharps will not be accepted.

Officials emphasize that leaving medications in home cabinets can lead to misuse, addiction, or accidental poisonings. Improper disposal methods, such as flushing or tossing medications in the trash, can also harm the environment.

The DEA’s Drug Take Back initiative has collected millions of pounds of unused medications nationwide since its launch, helping to combat the growing opioid crisis and protect families.
