La Porte County, IN – Motorists traveling on I-94 in La Porte County should prepare for lane closures starting Monday, August 26, as part of a preventative maintenance project on Warnke Road Bridge. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced that I-94 will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between mile markers 40 and 42, just east of the U.S. 20/35 interchange.
According to INDOT, these lane reductions are necessary to perform a bridge deck overlay on the Warnke Road overpass. The maintenance is set to continue through mid-November, with lane closures alternating as work progresses. Commuters should expect changing traffic patterns and possible delays during peak travel times.
This section of I-94, a crucial corridor for travelers heading to and from Michigan City, is anticipated to see significant traffic impacts. INDOT advises drivers to plan alternative routes or allow extra travel time. The project aims to extend the life of the bridge and enhance safety for all users, underscoring the importance of infrastructure upkeep in Indiana’s transportation network.
