Indianapolis, IN – Police have arrested four people accused of opening fire during a July street fight on the east side of Indianapolis that left an innocent neighbor wounded.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened July 5 in the 4000 block of East Michigan Street after a dispute organized on social media escalated into gunfire. Detectives said the suspects allegedly exchanged shots in the residential area, striking a bystander across the street. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Police said the first arrest came July 21 when 21-year-old Damarion Bean was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant for drug possession. He was later charged by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office with two counts of criminal recklessness, theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying of a firearm.
On July 30, officers arrested 28-year-old Torrece Milton on a charge of unlawful carrying of a handgun. The following month, on Aug. 20, 29-year-old Shanice Hatcher was arrested for allegedly carrying a handgun unlawfully. Prosecutors later added charges of criminal recklessness, battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a machine gun and possession of marijuana.
Police said the fourth suspect, 38-year-old Takila Beech, turned herself in on Aug. 26. She allegedly provided the firearm used by Hatcher and helped drive Bean away from the scene. Beech is charged with obstruction of justice and two counts of assisting a criminal.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review all cases for final charging decisions. Authorities emphasized that all individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
