According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 11500 west block of CR 400 North at approximately 1:09 p.m. for reports of a motor vehicle engulfed in flames with a child reportedly inside. When deputies arrived, they were unable to approach the vehicle due to the intensity of the blaze.

Fire crews arrived shortly after and were able to extinguish the flames, but officials confirmed that the infant died in the vehicle.
