Indianapolis, IN – A 55-year-old Indianapolis man was arrested last week after detectives allegedly uncovered evidence of child exploitation involving cryptocurrency transactions.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), Julian Wachner was taken into custody on August 20 following an investigation launched after a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Detectives allege Wachner purchased and possessed child sexual abuse material (CSAM) through digital currency.

Detectives executed a search warrant that day at Wachnerโ€™s home in the 3600 block of North Pennsylvania Street. Investigators reported finding multiple devices containing CSAM along with a large quantity of suspected cocaine.

IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said the work of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit is vital in identifying offenders and preventing further harm. โ€œThe exploitation of children is one of the most disturbing crimes our detectives investigate,โ€ Bailey said. โ€œThe work of our ICAC detectives, combined with advanced investigative tools, allows us to identify offenders and remove harmful material from circulation.โ€

Wachner was initially arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of child sex abuse material. The Marion County Prosecutorโ€™s Office later filed charges including 10 counts of possession of child sex abuse material, all Level 5 felonies, as well as possession of cocaine, a Level 4 felony. Prosecutors noted final charging decisions remain pending as the investigation continues.

Authorities emphasized that Wachner, like any person arrested, should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
