Indiana Crash: Double Fatality in Newton County – Semi-Truck Crash Shuts Down Roadway

Kentland, IN – A collision between a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle resulted in two fatalities Tuesday morning in Newton County. The crash occurred at 11:36 a.m. on CR 50 E at CR 1550 S, near the South Newton School Road.

According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, a 2018 Ford passenger vehicle driven by a 73-year-old Goodland, IN man was traveling westbound when it failed to yield at the intersection. The vehicle collided with a southbound semi tractor-trailer driven by a 21-year-old Hartford City, IN man. The impact caused the semi to veer off the roadway, overturn, and catch fire.

The semi driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately eight hours for crash reconstruction and cleanup. Authorities applied sand to the road due to the severity of the crash and advised drivers to use caution when traveling through the area.

The names of the victims have not been released. Multiple local agencies, including Kentland Fire and Newton County EMS, responded to the scene. The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude to the citizens who assisted in the rescue efforts.
