Newton County, IN – A collision between a passenger car and a semi-truck disrupted traffic Monday morning in northwest Indiana, closing the southbound lanes of US 41 for more than an hour.
According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 9:53 a.m. to the intersection of US 41 and SR 14 in Enos following reports of a two-vehicle crash involving significant property damage.
Investigators say a westbound passenger car, driven by a 70-year-old man from Chesterton, Indiana, failed to yield at the intersection and struck a southbound tractor-trailer operated by a 59-year-old Cedar Lake man. The crash impacted the driver’s side of the semi-truck, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.
Despite the severity of the collision, no injuries were reported. Both drivers declined further medical treatment at the scene, authorities said.
The southbound lanes of US 41 were shut down until approximately 11:17 a.m. while crews worked to clear the roadway and assist with vehicle removal.
Emergency response efforts included Newton County EMS, Morocco and Lake Village Fire Departments, the Newton County Emergency Management Agency, and Village Motors, among others.
Sheriff Cothran encouraged drivers to use caution at intersections and follow traffic signals to prevent future incidents.
