Kentland, IN – A 37-year-old man from Dearborn County, Indiana, was killed early Thursday morning after a single-vehicle rollover on US 41 near County Road 1800 South, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sgt. Fellmy, deputies responded around 6:14 a.m. Thursday to the northbound lanes of US 41 in the Newton/Benton County line area after reports of a severe rollover crash involving a 2013 Toyota Highlander. Investigators say the SUV crossed the median for unknown reasons before the driver allegedly over-corrected, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway.

The vehicle rolled multiple times, ejecting the driver, who was the only occupant. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

Emergency response teams from Newton County 9-1-1 Communications, Newton County EMS, Kentland Fire, the Newton County Coroner, and the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the crash site. Officials said the roadway remained open, though drivers in the Kentland area experienced slowdowns due to emergency activity.

The sheriff’s office did not immediately release additional details on what may have caused the vehicle to veer into the median. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
