Armagh, Pa. – Snow will overspread the higher elevations of Indiana County by 1 a.m. Sunday, bringing 5 to 10 inches through 1 a.m. Tuesday and creating hazardous travel for the Monday morning commute. Accumulating snow on untreated roads and hills could make travel very difficult, especially during heavier bursts Sunday night into Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 1 a.m. Sunday through 1 a.m. Tuesday for the higher elevations of Indiana County, including the Armagh area. Snow will develop overnight and continue at times into late Monday.
Road conditions will deteriorate before sunrise Sunday.
Route 422 and secondary mountain roads across the county’s higher terrain may become snow-covered and slick, particularly on bridges and shaded stretches. PennDOT crews are expected to treat primary routes, but accumulating snow could outpace clearing efforts during steadier periods.
Residents should delay nonessential travel and check 511PA for updated road conditions before leaving home. Allow extra travel time and maintain safe following distance on hills and curves.
Snow may linger into late Monday night, and the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday.
