Columbia City, IN – Indiana residents interested in learning about trapping can sign up for a trapper education course this month, hosted by Indiana Conservation Officers and members of the Indiana State Trappers Association.
According to the Indiana DNR Division of Law Enforcement, the course will be held at the Law Enforcement District 1 Office with two sessions scheduled: Friday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants must attend both sessions in order to be certified.
The classes will be led by Officer Nathan Hooley along with volunteer instructors from the Indiana State Trappers Association. Topics include the history and benefits of trapping, ethics and responsibility, choosing and preparing equipment, identifying furbearer species, and proper trap setting techniques.
Organizers note that the program is designed for beginners and experienced trappers alike. A minimum of six hours of classroom instruction is required, and participants must complete all sessions to receive certification.
