According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, gusty winds up to 35 mph will arrive Sunday night, ushering in a bitter Arctic air mass. By Monday evening, actual temperatures in central Indiana will hover in the mid-20s, but gust-driven wind chills will make it feel closer to the single digits. Areas like Kokomo, Muncie, and Lafayette are expected to hit minimum wind chills between 5–10°F by Tuesday morning.
The frigid conditions will be most intense during overnight hours and early morning commutes. Experts recommend dressing in layers, limiting time outside, and ensuring homes are adequately heated and winterized. Even short periods of skin exposure can lead to frostbite under these conditions.
Temperatures are expected to remain below average through midweek, with another cold shot possible late in the week.
