Michigan City, IN – A drug investigation led to the recovery of approximately $9,000 worth of tools allegedly stolen from a Chick-fil-A restaurant under construction in Michigan City, authorities said.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests stemmed from a March 12 operation at 422 Hoyt Street, where the La Porte County Drug Task Force (LCDTF), Michigan City Police SWAT, and the city’s Detective Bureau executed a search warrant. While searching the residence, officers reportedly discovered tools matching those taken during a January 28 theft from the Chick-fil-A site at 5809 Franklin Street.

With support from the LaPorte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, police secured a second search warrant and processed the scene. Authorities stated that the tools recovered had been stolen from the active construction site.

Two individuals, Kyle Fugate and Marisa Meeks, were arrested during the operation. Fugate faces allegations of dealing in a Schedule III controlled substance, a Level 3 felony. Meeks is allegedly charged with dealing in a Schedule II controlled substance, a Level 2 felony.

Officials said the case underscores the collaborative efforts of the LCDTF and Michigan City Police to curb drug trafficking and related crimes in the region. Both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
