Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana will face its first significant arctic blast of the season late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Sub-zero wind chills and high winds are expected to create dangerous conditions for residents and commuters alike.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, temperatures will drop rapidly as an arctic front moves in, causing wind chills to plunge below zero. Snow showers will accompany the cold air, with accumulations under an inch, but untreated roadways, especially along I-70, could experience flash freezing, making travel hazardous.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 45 mph overnight, with the strongest winds occurring between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. These gusts could create blowing snow, reducing visibility for drivers. Residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations and exercise caution when traveling, particularly during the early morning hours.
The weather will remain bitter on Thursday, with wind chills staying below zero until mid-morning. High temperatures will only reach the upper 20s, while winds will gradually diminish by evening.
