Dyer, IN – A 10-year-old Dyer boy is being honored as an honorary firefighter after saving his entire family in a blaze.
According to Dyer Fire officials, it began in the early morning hours of Monday, May 29th, the Dyer Fire Department responded to a fire in the 700 block of Hilbrich Court. As the firefighters arrived at the scene, they were met with a raging inferno that posed a grave threat.
Amidst the chaos and danger, young Mason Brewer displayed extraordinary bravery and acted swiftly to ensure the safety of his loved ones.
Mason, along with his parents, older brother, cousin, and grandfather, had been spending a joyous Memorial Day weekend together when disaster struck. Little did they know that their lives were about to be engulfed by flames. However, thanks to Mason’s heroic actions, and overall family training for such an event, the entire family managed to escape unharmed.
The heroic 10-year-old was awoken in the late hours of the night by the sound of breaking glass and confronted by smoke and intense heat, Mason remained remarkably calm. With remarkable presence of mind, he quickly alerted his family members, guiding them through the treacherous conditions to safety.
The Dyer Fire Department, deeply moved by Mason’s heroic act, bestow upon him the honorary title of Firefighter—an honor never before to someone so young at the department.
