Cayuga, IN – Chip seal operations are set to commence on U.S. 36 and S.R. 32 in Vermillion, Fountain, and Parke Counties. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced the work will start on or after July 25. The project aims to enhance nearly 83 total lane miles, significantly improving the road conditions in these areas.
According to INDOT, the chip seal process is a cost-effective way to extend the life of road surfaces by sealing minor cracks and preventing water from seeping into the pavement. This method involves applying a layer of asphalt emulsion followed by a layer of crushed stone, which is then compacted to create a durable, skid-resistant surface.
Residents and motorists should anticipate temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits during the construction period. INDOT advises drivers to exercise caution, follow posted signage, and be prepared for possible delays. The work is expected to enhance road safety and driveability, benefiting local communities and travelers alike.
