El Centro, California – Wind gusts up to 55 mph are roaring across the southwest corner of Imperial County overnight, creating dangerous crosswinds for drivers before 5 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. PST for areas near Mountain Spring and the far southwest desert. West winds are sustained at 20 to 30 mph, with stronger gusts capable of pushing high-profile vehicles out of their lanes.

Drivers along Interstate 8 near Mountain Spring may encounter sudden crosswinds, especially on elevated or exposed stretches. Light, unsecured objects could become airborne, and patchy blowing dust may briefly reduce visibility in open desert areas.

Officials urge motorists, particularly those operating semis, RVs and box trucks, to reduce speed and maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel. Secure outdoor furniture and avoid parking near loose debris.

Winds are expected to gradually ease after 5 a.m., but breezy conditions could linger past sunrise. Additional advisories may be issued if gusts remain elevated into the morning hours.
