Beaverville, IL – Young hunters will have the opportunity to learn upland game hunting skills during the Illinois Youth Pheasant Hunt and Wingshooting Clinic, set for Saturday, November 8 at Iroquois County State Wildlife Area.
According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), the event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to hunters ages 10 to 17 who have completed a certified hunter safety class. Participants will receive instruction from IDNR-certified wingshooting experts and have the chance to practice clay target shooting before heading to the field for a guided pheasant hunt.
The program is designed to teach safe and responsible hunting techniques, including the use of hunting dogs in the field. Each youth participant will have the opportunity to harvest up to two pheasants. IDNR said all necessary equipment, including shotguns, ammunition, clay targets, pheasants, and lunch, will be provided at no cost.
Local conservation groups and sponsors, including Whitetails Unlimited, Pheasants Forever chapters, and the Illinois Conservation Foundation, are supporting the event. IDNR noted that opportunities such as this help foster outdoor education and conservation awareness among young people while giving them hands-on hunting experience.
Pre-registration is required, and spots are limited. Families can register online at dnr2.illinois.gov/wingshootingclinics or by calling 815-933-1383.
This program is part of a statewide series of youth hunting opportunities organized by IDNR and local sponsors, with additional events scheduled in Henry and Tazewell counties on the same day.
