Chicago, IL – A Grammy-winning youth choir and a Broadway standout will bring hometown pride to Grant Park during this week’s NASCAR Chicago Street Race, organizers announced Wednesday.
According to NASCAR, Chicago native Aaron Nelson—cast member of The Lion King—will perform the national anthem on Saturday, July 5, before the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. On Sunday, July 6, the internationally celebrated Soul Children of Chicago will perform the anthem ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series race, capping off a weekend of racing and entertainment in the heart of the city.
“The Soul Children of Chicago and The Lion King’s Aaron Nelson represent the very best of Chicago’s talent, heart, and culture,” said Julie Giese, President of the NASCAR Chicago Street Race.
Founded by Dr. Walt Whitman, Jr. in 1981, the Soul Children of Chicago provides music and mentorship to city youth ages 7 to 17. The choir has performed globally, from the White House to stages abroad, and now brings its powerful voice to NASCAR’s premier event in Chicago.
Aaron Nelson, a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, made Broadway history as the youngest Adult Simba and later became the first African American to play Scar in The Lion King tour. He returns to the Cadillac Palace Theatre this October and calls the Grant Park performance a “full-circle moment.”
The 2025 NASCAR Chicago Street Race will also feature a performance by the Zac Brown Band and reduced ticket prices. Single-day Grounds Passes begin at $123.08 including taxes and fees. For tickets and information, visit NASCARChicago.com.
