Chicago, IL – Residents in northern Illinois, especially near the Illinois–Wisconsin border, should keep an eye on the forecast this Saturday, as a brief snow risk develops amid sharply changing temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a fast-moving system will bring sprinkles or flurries, with a better chance for light snow near the IL–WI state line, including parts of McHenry, Lake, Boone, and northern Kane counties. While significant accumulation is not expected, untreated roads could become slick for a short time, particularly during the morning hours.

High temperatures Saturday are forecast to reach the upper 30s to mid-40s, but colder air lingering near the Wisconsin border may allow precipitation to fall as snow or snow showers. Areas farther south toward Chicago and northwest Indiana are more likely to see little to no impact.

This comes during a period of rapid temperature swings across the region. After a colder Sunday with highs mainly in the mid-20s to low 30s, temperatures will rebound early next week. Forecasters say a much stronger warmup is expected by Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs climbing into the 40s and possibly low 50s by Christmas Day, well above late-December averages.

While Saturday’s snow risk appears minor, drivers near the Wisconsin border should use caution, especially on bridges and elevated roadways where brief slick spots may develop.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local updates, particularly if traveling north Saturday morning.
