Springfield, IL – Residents across central Illinois should prepare for strong winds early next week as two separate frontal systems move through the state, according to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois.
The first system arrives Sunday afternoon, October 19, 2025, bringing northwest winds gusting over 35 to 45 mph in many areas. Forecast models show the highest wind probabilities—up to 80–90% chance of exceeding 35 mph gusts—centered near Springfield, Lincoln, and Jacksonville.
A second front is expected Tuesday, October 21, shifting winds out of the west and bringing another round of strong gusts, again exceeding 35 mph with isolated peaks near 50 mph.
The NWS cautions that loose outdoor items should be secured and that driving may become difficult for high-profile vehicles, especially on north–south roads. Tree limbs and power lines may also be affected during the strongest gusts.
No widespread rain is expected with these fronts, but cooler air will settle in behind the second system midweek.
