CHICAGO, Ill. – Showers and scattered thunderstorms will linger across northern Illinois through midweek, bringing wet commutes and possible lightning hazards but also stretches of dry time in between.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the greatest risk tonight will be south of I-80, where rain and storms could limit visibility for drivers. On Monday, storm chances rise east of I-55, with highs climbing into the low to mid-70s. By Tuesday, much of the region can expect another round of scattered storms, with higher rain chances in the southern suburbs.

Wednesday will bring slightly cooler air, with highs dipping into the upper 60s. Storm chances shift back south of I-80 before another round of showers is possible on Thursday. Rainfall totals are expected to remain modest, but downpours could lead to brief ponding on city streets.

Commuters are urged to keep umbrellas handy and allow extra time for travel during heavier bursts of rain. Outdoor events and construction projects may face short delays, though most areas will still see several hours of dry conditions each day.

Rain and storm chances are expected to ease by late Thursday, offering a drier pattern heading into next weekend.
