Chicago, Illinois – Northern Illinois residents should brace for scattered showers and thunderstorms starting Friday and continuing through Saturday, with storm chances highest south of I-55 and across interior counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a few stray storms are possible Thursday afternoon and evening, mainly across northern interior regions. While the risk is low—about 20%—confidence increases heading into Friday and Saturday, when widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely. Rainfall will be most concentrated in central and southern areas, with the highest chances near I-55.

Temperatures will stay seasonable, ranging from the upper 70s to mid-80s through the weekend, though lakeside locations like Evanston and Waukegan will stay significantly cooler in the 60s to low 70s due to onshore breezes. Storms could lead to temporary road ponding, delayed outdoor plans, and lightning hazards for those boating or traveling Friday night into Saturday.

Residents are advised to monitor forecasts, avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorm windows, and secure outdoor items. While skies clear by Sunday, humidity and temperatures will climb again Monday, with highs approaching the upper 80s.

⚠️ Rain chances remain through Saturday evening. More updates will follow if watches or warnings are issued.
