Lincoln, IL – A strong cold front will bring a surge of cold air and powerful winds to Central Illinois beginning early Wednesday morning through the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.
Forecasters say west-northwest winds will reach 20–30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph expected through early evening. The strongest gusts will impact areas from Bloomington to Peoria and Springfield, potentially affecting holiday travel conditions.
Motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, are urged to use caution on north-south roads, where strong crosswinds could make driving difficult. Residents are also encouraged to secure outdoor items and holiday decorations before winds peak.
Temperatures will drop sharply behind the front, with highs struggling to reach the 40s by late day — a sharp change from earlier in the week’s milder weather.
