Springfield, Ill. – A wave of rain and cloudy skies will finally lift out of Illinois tonight, setting the stage for a sunny and unseasonably warm stretch through midweek.
According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, an upper-level low-pressure system responsible for the recent cool, damp pattern will push eastward by Monday night. This transition opens the door to clearer skies and high temperatures climbing into the 70s statewide by Tuesday afternoon.
Temperatures tonight will dip into the upper 40s and low 50s, with scattered showers tapering off after sunset. Springfield, Decatur, and Peoria are all expected to see highs between 70–74°F on Tuesday, with even warmer conditions on Wednesday as highs near 78°F in some areas. Patchy fog could form early Tuesday, especially near river valleys and low-lying spots.
Southern parts of the state, including Carbondale and Mount Vernon, may see lingering isolated showers into early Tuesday, but dry and mild weather will dominate the rest of the week. Winds remain light, and no severe weather is expected.
After a gray start to May, Illinois residents can expect sunny skies and warm afternoons through at least Thursday. The next weather update is expected late Wednesday as forecasters monitor possible changes into the weekend.
