Chicago, IL – Illinois residents should prepare for a classic mid-July stretch of heat, humidity, and potentially severe weather starting Saturday and continuing through Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago has issued a weather alert, warning of multiple clusters of storms and dangerously high temperatures. With multiple storms passing through the region potential for flash flooding is possible.

According to the NWS, seasonable and primarily dry conditions will persist through Friday. However, the weekend marks the beginning of a significant shift towards more oppressive weather. Saturday through Tuesday will bring hot and humid conditions, with peak heat indices ranging from 100°F to 110°F, especially on Sunday and Monday.

Friday night will see lingering evening showers and storms, particularly south of I-80, with low temperatures ranging from 59°F to 68°F. Saturday’s forecast includes temperatures between 80°F and 90°F, with isolated storms east of I-57. Sunday and Monday are expected to be very humid, with highs from 90°F to 95°F and the highest heat indices. Storms remain possible each day, with a 30-40% chance of showers in the evenings.
