Illinois Weather Forecast: 3–4 Inches of Snow Expected North of I-72, Slippery Roads for Commute

Lincoln, Ill. – The National Weather Service in Central Illinois reports that snow will return this afternoon and continue into the evening, bringing several inches of accumulation and creating slick travel conditions through the Monday evening commute.

Snow will begin early this afternoon west of I-55, spreading southeast toward the I-70 corridor by late afternoon or early evening. The heaviest accumulations, 3 to 4 inches, are expected from I-72 northward, while most other locations will see 2 to 4 inches overall.

Forecasters warn of snow-covered roads and reduced visibility during the evening hours, with lingering snow and slippery conditions possible into Tuesday morning.

Travelers are urged to allow extra time, slow down, and increase following distance during the commute. The period of greatest travel impact is expected between 3 PM and 9 PM Monday, when snowfall rates will be highest.
