SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A stretch of mild, calm fall weather will settle over central Illinois after lingering showers move out late Wednesday, bringing a quiet end to October and a comfortable start to November.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, light rain across southeast Illinois will taper off tonight, leaving behind partly cloudy skies and seasonable highs in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees through Friday. Cooler air will follow for the weekend, with Saturday marking the chilliest day of the period — highs in the low 50s and lows dipping into the upper 30s.
Forecasters noted only a 10–15% chance of light rain Saturday, mainly in southeastern counties, before dry conditions return Sunday into early next week. Temperatures will rebound quickly, reaching the mid-60s by Monday under mostly sunny skies.
With dry air and steady breezes expected, outdoor events for Halloween and the weekend should see comfortable weather. Homeowners are advised to finish yard cleanup and leaf burning safely before next week’s warmup, as winds may increase slightly Sunday afternoon.
No frost or freeze is anticipated through early next week, keeping conditions favorable for late-season fieldwork and travel across I-55, I-72, and I-74 corridors.
