Chicago, IL – February kicks off with a mix of winter weather before a brief warm-up, impacting travel and weekend plans.
According to the National Weather Service, a wintry mix of snow and rain is expected late Saturday into early Sunday across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. Snow accumulation is expected to be minimal, but icy conditions may develop overnight. Temperatures will rise to near 50 degrees by Sunday afternoon, offering a brief warm-up before another cool-down midweek.
Saturday night’s mix could make roads slick, especially in the early morning hours. Motorists should use caution on I-90, I-94, and local roads. Patchy fog may also reduce visibility.
Sunday will bring drier conditions with partial sunshine and highs near 48°F. Monday remains mild at 42°F, but colder air returns by midweek, with a chance of rain and snow Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Residents should prepare for changing conditions and monitor forecasts for updates. Warmer air may help melt existing ice, but refreezing at night could lead to hazardous travel early in the week.
