Lincoln, IL – A sharp cold snap is kicking off the week across central and eastern Illinois, with blustery winds and frigid wind chills making for a wintry start. Temperatures Sunday and Monday are expected to remain in the mid-30s to near 40 degrees, with wind chills dropping to between 5° and 10° early Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.
Snow showers will be most numerous across eastern Illinois, including areas near Danville, Champaign, and Paris, where brief light accumulation is possible through Monday morning. Winds from the northwest could gust over 30 mph, making it feel significantly colder during the overnight hours.
Despite the chill, forecasters say the cold pattern will be short-lived. Temperatures are expected to rebound into the upper 40s to low 50s by Tuesday, and climb near 60 degrees by midweek, bringing a quick return to milder November weather.
Drivers should use caution Monday morning, as brief snow showers could reduce visibility, especially in open rural areas.
