Chicago, IL – A wind advisory remains in effect for portions of north-central and northeast Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana, until 7 a.m. CDT Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago.

The advisory, issued early Tuesday morning, warns of north to northwest winds ranging from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Strong winds may result in hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles traveling on west-to-east roads.

According to the Lake County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, knock down tree limbs, and potentially cause scattered power outages. Additionally, wind-whipped snow late Wednesday night may lead to reduced visibility and difficult driving conditions.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture and decorations to prevent damage or hazards. Motorists should exercise caution, especially on open roads where wind gusts can impact vehicle stability.

The wind advisory is expected to expire by 7 a.m. Thursday, with conditions gradually improving throughout the day. However, officials advise monitoring local weather updates for any changes or extensions to the advisory.
