St. Clair County, IL – A tornado watch has been issued for 11 counties in Illinois, including St. Clair, Madison, and Adams, remaining in effect until 11 p.m. CDT Friday.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, the watch covers Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Monroe, Pike, Randolph, and St. Clair counties. Residents in these areas should remain alert as conditions may lead to tornado development and severe storms.

The watch signals that atmospheric conditions are favorable for tornadoes, strong winds, and large hail. The NWS advises residents to have emergency plans in place and stay updated with local warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, residents should take immediate shelter in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

Severe storms could bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall, potentially leading to flash flooding in low-lying areas. Travelers are urged to exercise caution, especially on highways and open areas prone to strong wind impacts.

Officials recommend monitoring weather updates through local news sources, NOAA Weather Radio, or mobile alerts to stay informed about changing conditions throughout the evening.
