Springfield, IL – Cloudy, cool, and damp conditions continue across central Illinois today as morning drizzle moves through the area, setting up a gray stretch heading into the weekend. Temperatures will hold between 47 and 52 degrees this morning and afternoon, with lingering mist keeping roads slightly slick for early commuters.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, IL, the larger, more organized rain system will begin pushing north into the state Thursday night into Friday, bringing area-wide rain chances of 50–80% — with the highest risk in southern portions of the region. Forecasters expect measurable rainfall to become more likely by Friday afternoon and Friday night as moisture deepens.

On Thursday, temperatures will reach the mid-50s before another round of scattered showers develops late in the day. Forecast models show Friday as the wettest period of the week, with highs near 56 degrees and lows dipping into the lower 40s overnight. Rainfall may impact evening commute times for residents in Springfield, Decatur, Bloomington, Peoria, and surrounding counties.

Conditions begin to dry out on Saturday, with improving skies later in the day and highs in the lower 50s. By Sunday, central Illinois could finally see a more extended break from clouds, with temperatures rebounding into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Residents should expect off-and-on drizzle through today and prepare for more steady rain Friday into Friday night.
