Lincoln, Illinois – Unseasonably mild temperatures will continue across central and southeast Illinois through Thursday, with highs climbing into the 60s and even low 70s before thunderstorms move in later this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, afternoon highs will range from the upper 50s to mid-60s Monday and Tuesday, warming to the mid-60s to low 70s by Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. Breezy conditions are expected at times through midweek.

Patchy morning fog will dissipate Monday, giving way to partly cloudy skies. Clouds increase Tuesday, with a 20–50 percent chance of rain developing Tuesday night.

The next round of more widespread showers and possible thunderstorms arrives Thursday, with rain chances around 50 percent during the day and a continued chance of storms Thursday night. Highs Thursday will remain mild, ranging from the low 60s to upper 60s.

Temperatures cool heading into Friday, dropping back into the mid-40s to low 50s for daytime highs.

Residents should monitor updates later this week as Thursday’s system approaches, especially if thunderstorms become stronger than currently expected.
