Chicago, Illinois – A stretch of warm, dry days is almost here—but first, Chicago could see showers and a few thunderstorms on Saturday, May 31.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 30% chance of rain and isolated thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Friday, primarily affecting Cook County and the surrounding metro area. While severe storms are not expected, gusty winds up to 25 mph and patchy smoke from Canadian wildfires may impact visibility on roads like I-55 and I-90 into early evening.

By Sunday, June 1, sunshine dominates the forecast, kicking off a mild summer-like pattern across northern Illinois. Highs will climb into the mid-80s Monday and Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and calm conditions. Winds will shift east by Sunday afternoon with gusts near 20 mph.

For those making early June plans, expect mostly clear nights and daytime highs rising from the upper 70s to near 90°F by midweek. Monday and Tuesday nights remain clear with lows near 67°F, offering ideal conditions for evening events or travel.

Looking ahead, Wednesday brings a slight chance of thunderstorms and another round of mild highs near 79°F, followed by partial sun Thursday with temps falling slightly to 68°F. No major storm systems are expected through June 5, but elevated pollen and smoke could linger.

More updates will follow if advisories or alerts are issued.
