Chicago, Ill. – Chicago residents can look forward to a bright start to the workweek as sunshine takes hold Monday, September 8. A stretch of dry and mild weather will keep the city clear through much of the week, while NOAA’s long-range outlook shows below-normal rainfall extending across Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will be sunny with highs near 67. By Monday, skies remain clear with highs near 72, followed by a warming trend into the upper 70s Tuesday and mid-70s Wednesday. Afternoon highs could approach the low 80s by late week, delivering a taste of early fall warmth.

For commuters on I-90, I-94, and Lake Shore Drive, the forecast promises smooth travel conditions with dry pavement and clear skies. The lack of rainfall will also favor outdoor events and construction projects throughout Cook County. However, farmers and gardeners may need to monitor soil moisture as the dry stretch persists.

NOAA’s 6–10 day precipitation outlook keeps Illinois in the “below normal” zone, signaling that Chicago’s dry weather could continue through mid-September. While this makes for excellent outdoor plans, officials encourage residents to stay mindful of water use and outdoor fire safety.

The National Weather Service expects sunny skies to dominate much of the week, with only brief cloud cover and no measurable rain in sight until late weekend.
