Chicago, IL – A line of severe storms is expected to impact northern Illinois, including the Chicago metro area, beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday and continuing through 6 p.m., raising concerns for localized flooding, travel disruptions, and strong winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the region faces a Level 2 out of 5 threat for severe weather. The highest risk window spans early Sunday morning through late afternoon, with the potential for damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and isolated thunderstorms. While exact storm strength and timing remain uncertain, forecasters are urging residents to monitor conditions closely.

Areas including Rockford, Joliet, Elgin, and Kankakee are all within the threat zone. The greatest concentration of storms is expected between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., particularly in and around Chicago. Morning commuters may also face slick roads and brief downpours, especially between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Residents are advised to remain weather-aware throughout the day, avoid travel during peak storm periods, and secure outdoor items. Emergency kits with flashlights and extra batteries are recommended in case of outages.
