Springfield, IL – Central Illinois residents should prepare for several days of scattered storms and rising heat, with temperatures nearing 90 degrees by the end of the workweek.
According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, isolated evening thunderstorms will continue Tuesday night before clearing out by midnight. Wednesday brings a break in the storms, with warm and dry conditions and highs between 81–86 degrees. However, weather changes quickly Thursday, when winds pick up and temperatures climb to 92 degrees, accompanied by a 30% chance of scattered thunderstorms.
Friday will be similar, with storm chances increasing to 40% and daytime highs between 85–88 degrees. Storm activity is expected to be most frequent along and south of I-74. Weekend conditions look more favorable, with Saturday and Sunday expected to remain mostly dry and seasonably warm, with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s.
Drivers are advised to monitor local alerts and plan for potential delays due to brief downpours and gusty winds. Residents should also stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours Thursday and Friday. The pattern signals an early taste of summer, but clearer skies are likely by the weekend.
