Springfield, IL – Residents across central and southeast Illinois should prepare for a stretch of dry, unseasonably warm weather that extends into next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln.
The NWS reports that temperatures are expected to climb close to 90 degrees on Sunday, Sept. 28, and Monday, Sept. 29, marking a notable warm-up for early fall. Forecast highs range from the mid-80s to low 90s through the start of the week, while overnight lows will hover in the upper 50s.
According to forecasters, skies will remain mostly sunny through Tuesday, with Wednesday bringing slightly cooler temperatures between 82 and 87 degrees. By Thursday and Friday, highs should ease back into the low 80s, providing some relief from the early-week heat.
Meteorologists emphasize that the dry spell will continue, posing challenges for agriculture and increasing fire risk in grassy or rural areas. No rainfall is expected until late in the week, and conditions will remain breezy at times.
Residents are advised to take precautions during the hot afternoons, especially outdoor workers and those sensitive to heat. Hydration and sun protection are recommended for anyone spending extended time outside.
