Springfield, IL – Lingering showers are expected across portions of Central Illinois today, mainly south of Interstate 72, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Rain chances are between 20% and 40%, but forecasters say the unsettled weather will move out by this evening.
According to the NWS office in Lincoln, drier conditions are expected beginning Thursday and will last through at least the weekend. Temperatures are forecast to rise steadily, with highs in the upper 70s Thursday, low 80s Friday, and mid-to-upper 80s Saturday and Sunday.
Wednesday’s forecast calls for scattered showers with highs ranging from 76 to 79 degrees and overnight lows in the mid-50s. Thursday brings mostly dry conditions with only a slight 10% chance of isolated showers east of I-57. By Friday, forecasters expect clear skies, sunshine, and highs in the low 80s.
The weekend outlook is favorable for outdoor activities, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-to-upper 80s across much of Central Illinois, including Springfield, Decatur, and Champaign.
Drivers along I-72 may encounter brief wet pavement today, but travel conditions should improve significantly by Thursday.
