Chicago, IL – A few isolated, slow-moving thunderstorms could develop this morning, primarily east of the Pontiac-to-Gary, Indiana line. According to the National Weather Service, these storms will be capable of producing localized downpours and cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. The risk remains focused in areas like Kankakee, Paxton, and Rensselaer. The majority of the region, however, will stay dry this morning.
Thunderstorms are expected to last until 11 a.m. today, with the worst impacts limited to the eastern portions of the state. These storms could lead to brief periods of heavy rain, with lightning posing a potential risk to outdoor activities.
Travelers in affected areas are urged to stay cautious, especially along I-55 and I-57 corridors, where localized flooding may occur. Motorists should slow down and avoid driving through flooded areas.
The system will continue to move eastward, with conditions improving in the afternoon. For now, it’s advisable to stay indoors if you are in the path of the storms. Further updates and alerts may be issued as necessary.
