Champaign, Ill. – Drivers across central Illinois should prepare for spotty thunderstorms tonight before a stretch of sunny, mild weather begins Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, scattered storms will continue into this evening, especially along and south of I-70. While severe storms are not expected, gusty winds and brief downpours may reduce visibility for late travelers. The storm line moves out overnight, leaving behind clear skies and cooler air.

By Monday, August 25, residents in Champaign, Decatur, and Springfield can expect sunshine with highs in the mid-70s. Northwest winds up to 15 mph will bring drier air, making the start of the workweek more comfortable. Morning lows will drop near 50 degrees, offering the coolest start in weeks.

Travel conditions improve significantly by sunrise Monday, with dry pavement expected on I-55, I-57, and I-72. The calmer weather will last through midweek, with no hazardous conditions currently forecast.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy outdoor activities but remain alert to cooler nighttime lows. Farmers and gardeners may want to monitor soil moisture as dry air dominates the week. No weather-related disruptions are anticipated for schools or businesses.

The next weather shift arrives late in the week, with slightly warmer temperatures returning by Thursday and Friday.
