Illinois – Low clouds hang over Chicago this morning, and visibility drops in pockets as fog lingers across the metro.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, patchy fog will persist through late morning before gradual improvement. At the same time, north winds increase to 20 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph by afternoon. That combination creates reduced visibility early, then difficult travel conditions later in the day.

Temperatures struggle to rise, holding near 42°F this afternoon. A slight chance of rain develops after midday, adding damp pavement into the mix. Drivers along I-90, I-94, and Lake Shore Drive should expect sudden visibility drops early, followed by crosswinds that can push vehicles, especially near open stretches.

Conditions turn sharper tonight. Winds remain gusty as temperatures fall to around 31°F. Any leftover moisture on roads and sidewalks could refreeze, creating isolated slick spots by early Monday morning. Use caution on bridges and overpasses where freezing happens first.

Monday brings some relief with decreasing clouds and lighter winds, though highs only reach the upper 30s. The chill lingers into Monday night with lows in the low 30s. A gradual warm-up begins Tuesday, with highs returning to the 50s.

Midweek introduces another chance for light showers, especially by Wednesday, before a milder pattern builds toward Thursday.

For now, expect changing conditions within hours. Keep headlights on in fog, secure loose items in strong winds, and watch for slick spots tonight into early Monday.
