Chicago, IL – Rainfall from Friday through Saturday could lead to flooding concerns in parts of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.
The National Weather Service in Chicago issued a Hydrologic Outlook on Thursday morning, warning of potential flooding in rivers, creeks, and areas with poor drainage. Heavy rainfall, possibly including embedded thunderstorms, is expected to affect the region from late Friday into Saturday. Forecasts predict widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches near and south of Interstate 80, with some localized totals potentially exceeding 2 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, runoff from recent rains, combined with already saturated soil, could cause rivers and streams in the area to rise, increasing the risk of flooding. Areas near the Iroquois, Kankakee, and Illinois rivers are particularly vulnerable to potential flooding.
While specific locations remain uncertain, the outlook highlights a greater chance of higher rainfall totals south of Interstate 80. Residents in these areas are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible flood watches, warnings, or advisories.
The National Weather Service will provide an updated forecast later this afternoon.
