Springfield, IL – Central Illinois residents should prepare for a stretch of hot and dry conditions, as forecasters warn that temperatures will climb into the 90s this weekend and persist through much of next week.

According to the US National Weather Service in Lincoln, temperatures will range from the upper 80s Thursday and Friday before rising into the low to mid-90s Saturday through Wednesday. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, with only a 15 percent chance of isolated showers on select days.

The heat spell begins in earnest Saturday, when highs are expected between 91 and 95 degrees. Sunday and Monday will remain hot, topping out near 97 degrees in some areas. By Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-90s. Overnight lows will generally stay in the mid-60s, offering little cooling relief.

The extended dry conditions may impact agriculture, lawns, and outdoor events, as the area has already experienced a prolonged dry spell. Meteorologists note that the limited chances for rain—just slight pop-up showers—are unlikely to significantly reduce drought concerns.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors, especially older adults. Pets and livestock should also have access to shade and fresh water during the hot stretch.

This hot and dry pattern is expected to dominate central Illinois through at least midweek, with no major storms or widespread rainfall in sight.
