Chicago, IL – A weak cold front will push southeast across Illinois today, bringing a break from the recent hot and humid weather. Residents south of the I-80 corridor should prepare for a few scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. According to the US National Weather Service in Chicago, these storms are not expected to be severe.
The region will still experience warm and humid conditions today, with highs ranging from 83°F to 88°F. However, significant changes are on the way. By Wednesday, temperatures will drop to between 77°F and 82°F, with less humidity and mostly cloudy skies.
Thursday will see the coolest weather, especially near Lake Michigan, with highs between 71°F and 77°F. Dangerous swimming conditions are possible due to the cooler temperatures.
Friday and Saturday will continue the trend of seasonably cooler weather, with highs ranging from 77°F to 83°F. Both days are expected to be mostly sunny, though Saturday might see some cloud cover.
Overnight lows throughout the week will range from 54°F to 70°F, providing a much-needed respite from the heat. An extended stretch of dry, seasonably cooler, and less humid weather is anticipated for the remainder of the week and the coming weekend.
