Springfield, IL – A strong cold front is pushing through Illinois today, bringing a noticeable fall chill to much of the state. According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, highs will remain in the 70s south of I-70 but dip into the 60s north of the interstate as the front moves through.
Forecasters say the cooler weather pattern will hold for several days, with lows dropping into the 30s over east central Illinois by Wednesday and Thursday nights. “It will definitely feel like fall for a few days,” the Weather Service noted in its latest update.
Daytime highs Wednesday and Thursday are expected to reach only the upper 60s to near 70 degrees, while nighttime lows range from the upper 30s to low 40s. By Friday and Saturday, temperatures will gradually rebound, with highs climbing back into the mid to upper 70s.
Drivers and early risers should be prepared for chilly morning conditions through late week. Another warmup is forecast to arrive by the weekend, signaling a brief return to milder October weather.
