Chicago, IL – Rain returns to northeast Illinois beginning after 9 a.m. today, with showers and breezy winds expected to linger through Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, widespread showers will move into the Chicago area shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday and become more steady by early afternoon. Wind gusts from the south will reach up to 20 mph. Drivers in Chicago and surrounding suburbs should anticipate slick roadways during commutes and plan for slower travel times, especially on I-90 and Lake Shore Drive.

Rain continues into Wednesday night with shifting winds from the east. Low temperatures will drop to around 37°F. By Thursday, precipitation chances decrease slightly, though spotty showers remain possible after 1 p.m. Wind speeds will persist near 15 mph, with gusts again reaching 20 mph.

Skies begin to clear by Thursday night, setting up a dry and sunny stretch. Friday brings sunshine and a high near 47°F. Saturday continues the warming trend with partly cloudy skies and highs near 53°F. Sunday and Monday will feel more like spring, with temperatures reaching the low 60s and mostly sunny skies.

Though rain disrupts midweek plans, a dry and warmer weekend is ahead for much of Illinois. Residents should keep umbrellas handy today and Thursday but can look forward to a pleasant spring rebound starting Friday.
