Champaign, Illinois – A round of rain and breezy winds will target east-central Illinois Tuesday afternoon, posing potential travel delays along I-74 and surrounding roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a 40 percent chance of showers begins after 1 p.m. Tuesday, with winds from the east-northeast at 11 mph and gusts reaching 20 mph. Temperatures will remain mild, with a high near 69°F, but the wet and windy conditions could affect visibility and driving, especially during the evening commute.

Localized showers may continue Tuesday night as winds shift from the northeast to the northwest after midnight, with gusts tapering off. Although no major flooding is expected, drivers are urged to slow down on slick roads and use caution during sudden gusts.

Wednesday brings a brief break, with only a 30 percent chance of morning showers. Expect partly sunny skies by afternoon and a warm high near 70°F. Winds remain breezy from the west-northwest at 8 to 11 mph.

Looking ahead, Thursday through Sunday looks more summer-like. Thursday will be partly sunny and dry with a high of 72°F, followed by a slightly warmer Friday at 76°F. The weekend brings plenty of sunshine, with highs near 79°F Saturday and 80°F Sunday.
