Springfield, IL – Central and southeast Illinois will see a stretch of unusually warm and dry weather this week, with temperatures pushing toward 90 degrees before a gradual cooldown midweek.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, highs will reach between 87 and 92 degrees Sunday through Tuesday. Beginning Wednesday, slightly cooler air is expected to move in, bringing daytime highs down to the mid-80s and nighttime lows into the 50s.

Rain chances remain very low, staying below 10 percent throughout the week, leaving drought conditions in place across much of the state. Winds are forecast to stay light, generally under 10 miles per hour.

Sunday’s high is projected at 87 to 89 degrees, with similar readings Monday and Tuesday. By Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures should moderate slightly, topping out between 85 and 87 degrees. Nights will feel noticeably cooler, with lows in the lower 50s expected late in the week.

Forecasters say the unseasonably warm stretch could extend into next weekend, with Saturday highs forecast in the low 80s. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and mindful of dry conditions that can elevate fire risk.
